The Cost of Freephone Calls

This chart shows real results from a group of hotels over a period of 12 months.

Each column represents a hotel's total duration in minutes for calls to various locations. The first column of each call type represents the summary (average) across the hotels.

Clearly, Freephone use is signifacant when compared to other call destinations. Many of these Freephone minutes will be online to Internet Service Providers, with many minutes consumed in one phone call, compared to typical voice calls.

The hotels are paying for this resource use, through trunk line charges, even though the calls are free. When hotels also consider reducing the number of trunk lines following a trunk analysis, it becomes even more essential to impose handling charges for Freephone calls.
